dc.description.abstract A city is composed of layers. Each layer is apart of history and is important to the growth of the city. The layers create the characteristics of the city. This investigation explores the notion of compiling the layers and extracting information, which then informs the larger context. The result is to create a vessel (building) that is infused within the landscape of the city. The building performs as an architectural expression of the blurring between the layers. The blur (the joining together of elements) becomes a dialogue that exists between the extracted layers. Using the design of a "theatre" this thesis seeks to investigate the blended territories (the dialogue) at the multiple scales of the city, building, and individual. en_US
